At Diamond Pet Foods, nothing is more important to us than the safety of our products. We adhere to stringent and scientifically advanced food safety protocols.

We constantly monitor and test our raw materials, production environment, processes and finished products. By continuously improving performance with the latest advancements in science and technology, we’ve developed a comprehensive food safety system.

On-Site Product Testing

We test and monitor every aspect of the manufacturing process: pre-production, production and post-production.

  • 1,075 Mycotoxin Tests/week
  • 1,300+ Microbiological Tests/week
  • 180 Oxidative Stability Tests on Fats & Oils/month
  • R6,000+ Ingredient Nutritional Tests/month
  • 45,000+ Finished Product Nutritional Tests/mont
  • 18+ hours of Employee Safety Training per employee/year
  • 600+ Safety Assessments/year

Mycotoxin Control

1,075 MYCOTOXIN TESTS/WEEK

No grain ingredients, which could be at risk for mycotoxins, are allowed to enter our facilities without having been thoroughly analyzed, using the most advanced testing methods and equipment available. Mycotoxins are toxic chemicals produced by fungi that can appear in grains. At Diamond, we perform 1,075 mycotoxin tests every week. An extra layer of protection is added by testing all finished products containing corn or rice on an hourly basis prior to release.

Microbial Testing

1,300 MICROBIOLOGICAL TESTS/WEEK

We conduct over 1,300 microbiological tests every week, including finished product tests, in-process tests, environmental tests and sanitation-verification tests. All topical palatants and probiotics must have a Certificate of Analysis and prove to be Salmonella negative before submission to Diamond Pet Foods. We also perform approximately 180 oxidative stability tests every month for all fats and oils used as topical ingredients.

Water Quality

We utilize a water purification process to ensure the water we use is free from microorganisms and organic and inorganic chemicals. Using a process known as reverse osmosis, water is forced through a series of fine filters to remove any possible contaminants.

Air Quality

All of our manufacturing facilities are segregated into zones to ensure separation of raw materials from finished products. Each production area is equipped with HEPA®-filtered and ozone air-treated handling units to ensure clean, treated air is utilized in each of the segregated zones.

Test & Hold Program

45,000+ FINISHED PRODUCT NUTRITIONAL TESTS/MONTH

No product is released into distribution without adhering to the strict standards of our Test and Hold Program, in which product tests are conducted by a certified, independent laboratory. We use scientifically- and statistically-based referencing standards set by the ICMSF (International Commission on the Microbiological Specification for Foods). Samples are collected and tested for every product produced. Every sample is kept for a time equal to the guaranteed shelf life of the product, typically 12 months. And no product is released without this verification activity.
